Only the largest flower bulbs!
Tulip Store only works with the largest available size per variety. The size differences arise from the circumference of the flower bulb in centimeters. After the harvest of tulip bulbs has been sorted, a girth of 10 centimeters and larger is sold and normally smaller than 10 centimeters will be planted again by the growers in autumn. Tulips are sorted in size 10/11 - 11/12 - 12/+. Tulip Store only delivers the largest available size per variety, which is size 12/+ for almost all varieties, i.e. the flower bulb has a circumference of at least 12 centimetres. Some tulip varieties even grow to size 14/+, such as Apricot Pride and Salmon Impression.
We supply the largest bulb sizes so that you can enjoy the largest flowers in spring. With smaller sizes, the properties of the tulip are also less visible. For example, a peony tulip will have much less richly filled flowers and a parrot tulip will have almost no parrot shape.
When are flower bulbs available?
The flower bulbs of spring bloomers, such as the tulip, are planted by the growers in fall. After flowering in spring, the flowers are removed as soon as possible so all energy will put into the flower bulb. The flower bulb starts to grow after flowering. In July, almost all flower bulbs are harvested. The flower bulbs are then dried, peeled and sorted by size. In August we pack all flower bulbs by hand in paper bags.
From September 1st. we will send the first orders to customers throughout Europe. In the first 3 weeks of September we ship all orders received from March to August. From the end of September we ship orders within 2 working days.
